John Taylor's Duran Duran/Power Station Kubicki Ex Factor Bass Prototype

"This Ex Factor bass, serial # 024, made in January 1985, is one of the last in a line of prototypes that defined the Factor Bass product line."

"Changed after this instrument were the pickup shape, re-locating the pickups, and some changes in the circuitboard."

"Through our contacts in the UK with Duran Duran and John Taylor we sent this bass to him for his use and approval. John used this bass for a performance on Saturday Night Live [by The Power Station.]It was the first time a Factor Bass was seen on television."

It was also used for other Power Station and Duran Duran appearances.

John Taylor later received two production Ex Factor Basses, (including the white one currently on display in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum,) and returned this bass to the factory, where until now it has been a part of Phil Kubicki's personal collection.

The bass is in exceptional condition, with only a few minor scratches. Included with this lot is the original hardshell case and a LOA from the instrument's designer and builder, Phil Kubicki, a portion of which is quoted above.
